One of the girls’ chores today was to tidy up their bulletin board. Among the relics that came down was the summer reading certificate Grace earned last year.
Although we read together as a family nightly, and Grace loves to peruse picture books on her own, she doesn’t read much yet. She’s familiar enough with words, however, to spot her name. When she saw it on the certificate today, she asked, “What does this say, Mommy?”
“Well, let me see here,” I said, holding up the certificate. “This certificate hereby designates Grace L. as a successful 2011 Utah summer reader.”
“What!” Grace exclaimed, snatching the paper from my fingers, her eyes alight with glee. “I know how to read now?”
