Halen
was putting on his Cars pajamas this evening when he told me that when the boys
at school saw his Cars socks last year, they made fun of him and accused him of
liking the movie Cars.
“Really?”
I asked. “What did you tell them after that?”
“I
said I didn’t like Cars. Besides, I liked Cars 2 better, so that’s
why they shouldn’t make fun of me. And anyway, they were the only socks I could
find that morning.” Halen’s lip momentarily sank at the memory. Then,
shrugging, he concluded, “I guess I should be thankful for what I have, though.”
I liked how he tagged that unrelated moral onto the story.
Perhaps
I need to mention to Halen’s grandmother that he’s getting a little too old to
wear cartoon characters on his clothes. Kids need to blend into their school
surroundings as much as possible to avoid trauma, no? Only adults like the odd
kids. In immature social circles, oddity demands punishment.
Too
bad.
I guess I should be thankful for what I have, though.
